COMPETITION RULES

Catavinum World Wine and Spirits Competition (CWWSC) is organized and developed by Catavinum in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain).
The objectives of this competition are the following:

  • Inform consumers and international wine and spirits professionals on the quality of the winning brands, helping the diffusion and communication of them.

  • Provide messages to 80% of consumers who expect international references on quality wines and spirits.

  • Promote the production of quality wines and spirits.

  • Contribute to the diffusion of the culture of wine and spirits.

Article 1. The competition is open to all wines and spirits of the world: still, sparkling, liqueur, semi-sweet/sweets wines and spirits.

Article 2. Each contestant must complete the appropriate registration form with the information requested:

  • Identification of the participant.

  • Full name of the wine/spirit.

  • Area of production / geographic mention if it is indicated by their labels.

  • Country of origin which has been elaborated and developed the product.

  • Year of harvest.

  • If it has been prepared and/or aged in contact with wood.

  • Product category: white, rosé, red, sparkling, liqueur, semi-sweet/ sweet and spirit.

  • Recommended retail price at specialty stores in euros.

Article 3. Registration fee

First sample: 125 euros

Second sample: 100 euros

Third sample and following: free registration.

The payment must be as follows:

  • Non-Spanish companies: by credit card.
  • Spanish companies: by credit card or bank transfer.

Each participant will receive an invoice.

 

SHIPMENT OF SAMPLES

Article 4. You must send sent 3 bottles for each sample submitted to the contest. The bottles have to be fully labeled in accordance with international rules.

Note: Shipping of samples: DDP.

DDP: all costs and taxes of the import are paid by the participating winery.

 

 

 

ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION

Article 7. The samples will present for tasting in a package that allows the anonymity of the samples.

Article 8. The jury will consist of the tasting committee of catavinum.


DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETITION

Article 9. The wines presented to the Competition will be evaluated with the tab OIV / UIOE for sensory analysis of wines/spirits in international competitions.

Article 10. As a general rule, the wines/spirits will be tasted at the following temperatures:

  • White and rosé wines: 10-12 º C

  • Red Wines: 15-18 ° C

  • Sparkling Wines: 8-10 º C

  • Liqueur wines: 8-10 º C

  • Semisweet/sweet wines: 12-14 ° C

  • Spirits: 15-18 ºC

 

REWARDS

Article 11. Diplomas and medals will be attributed to wines according to the score obtained:

  • Great Gold Medal: 95 to 100 points.

  • Gold Medal: 89 to 94 points.

  • Silver Medal: 80 to 88 points.

Article 12. The total number of awards will not may exceed 30% of the number of samples entered in the competition. Each distinction will be accompanied by the certificate, which will can be downloaded directly from the website.

Article 13. Only rewarded wines may use medal.

 

RESULTS

Article 14. The results will be announced at the end of February.

APPENDIX: CATEGORIES OF WINES/SPIRITS

The categories of wines/spirits are:

  • Category 1. White wines without oak.
  • Category 2. White wine with oak.
  • Category 3. Rosé wines without oak.
  • Category 4. Rosé wine with oak.
  • Category 5. Red wines without oak.
  • Category 6. Red wines with oak.
  • Category 7. Sparkling wines.
  • Category 8. Liqueur wines.
  • Category 9. Semisweet/ sweet wines.
  • Category 10. Spirits (brandy, cognac, armagnac, tequila, whisky...).

Registration opening: November 1, 2023..

Deadline of registration and sending samples: January 31, 2024.

Contest dateFebruary 15-25, 2024.

Publication of results: February 28, 2024.

Note: 3 bottles of each registered sample must be sent, except in the case of liquors, only 2 bottles will need to be sent.
